Roller Boogie memories....
Yesterday I read a story that brought a few little sad tears to my eyes.
It was all about the redevelopment of the Red Hill Skate Arena as it was called by all the hip and happening kids back in the day!
OMG the fun I had at that place. It was situated in the neighbouring suburb to where I lived and from memory (which is a little blurred right now...) I would frequent it on a Saturday afternoon and on the odd occasion maybe a Friday or Saturday night, as I got older.
The music & the kids were a big part of it. Ohhhh and of course the skating too hehehe but prob in that order...
And of course in the early days I had to hire the "boots" from the Arena and of course this made me look not so cool BUTTTTT of course deep down I was :)
I begged my Grandparents and Funny Nana for the holy "White Boot Skate with the very BIG Stopper at the front" butttt alas they were very very expensive and we couldn't afford it. So that meant I had to keep wearing the "used rented type of skate" and I was a little sad but understood. :(
But then came the MOST AMAZING DAY ON THE PLANET... you see from time to time my Nana would spend the day at the Horse Races here in Brisbane, and at this point I should add (because my Nana would have liked you to know this bit) she honestly didn't go very often and so a couple of times a year Grandad and I would drop her to Eagle Farm Racecourse and then pick her up in the afternoon.
Actually looking back now it was a pretty big thing I would have thought for a woman back then, and we are talking the 1970's here, for a woman to attend the races by herself!
Anyway the point is she never went very much. So this one afternoon Grandad and I go to pick her up anddddddd she had a huge smile on her face because you see she won BIG TIME! Shame that I can't tell you how much because even I am curious to know but back then, being a child I wasn't privy to that type of info!
But here is where the story gets good!!!! My Nana bought me.......
yep you got it! These:
Now this was the closest picture that I could get to what mine looked like. I didn't have the pink wheels though mine were more like a brown with wood grain. I know sexy right! LOL
And I can only imagine my face the day Nana said we could go buy them! I mean here I am some 30 something years later and I can still see those skates and still see me skating in them :)
Ohhh and I can remember cleaning the wheels with Methylated "Metho" Spirits and the white boot polish... ahhh those were def the days my friends!!
And a fire on Boxing Day in 2002 cause so much damage and it has sat derelict and vacant since then...
Here is the clip that I watched and they have big plans to keep as much as they can of the site but to now turn it into something beautiful. To see the back of the rink where at the start I used to hold on for dear life not to fall over, well that was the bit that made me sad for the building!
Here is the link:
Plans roll on for Red Hill Skate Arena to turn it into function centre
And whilst we are kinda talking about wonderful parenting I soooo have to share this little bit of GOLD from a lovely male friend of mine, who is the BOMB at Parenting Teenage Girls..... hehehe
This is what I read this morning via his Facebook:
Having trouble getting your kids to clean their room? Roll up a sultana, squeeze the ends, lay it next to their bed. Next morning walk in to their room, ask what that thing is, suggest it's rat poo, then gently pick it up and eat it in front of them! I love being a Dad! The reactions you get!
I love this guy sooooooooo much. Mind you when I was 14 and at high school he along with another guy, would put my pencil case on top of the ceiling fans in Speech & Drama because me being short, I couldn't reach it and ohhhhh they would laughhhhhhh! LOL
And on other news, last night James and I worked a little more on the spankin new website and the plan is to launch it sometime during the early hours of Monday 27th February, so stay tuned for that one Groover's.
So the rest of my weekend ie. Sunday was spent doing my "homework" HUH? I knowwww me tooooo! But I had homework aka My Book to start and I have to say I had an enjoyable day doing this :)
Oh and before I leave you tonight I have an update on my Dove Family! Okkkkk so last I left it there was one teeny little egg as you saw via this pic!
So since then both Mum & Dad Dove have been taking turns to lay on the egg to keep it warm, safe and protected. And finally this morning I saw either that Mum or Dad feeding the little baby dove! Then a bit later in the morning I heard a little noise and Mum/Dad had finally flown off the nest to go get some food soooo when I had a look this is what I found:
TWOOOOOOOO babies!!!! And they are sooo tiny! I tried to get a good pic for you guys but this was the best I could get because it didn't take long for Mum or Dad to return and I didn't want to be caught out!!
Oh and before I forget here are the pics of my manicured hole!!

Isn't she pretty!
Oh and tonight I had a wonderful chat with my good friend Chris, it's been a long time in between phone calls but geez we had some good laughs. And I promised that I would mention him in The Morley Report tonight and confess that he had the inside scoop to the stories that appear in tonight's Morley Report! A high honor indeedy Mr Chris :)
And that my friends was Sunday. Nice quiet weekend doing things that I love. Not bad if you can get it :)

The Morley Roundup...
Well it sure has been an eventful week in my life!
First there was the Dove Family Nest saving thanks to my wonderful friend Greg! And Groover's I would love to announce the our Dove family is expecting!
Yep this time it's just one little egg all by itself. They sure didn't muck around this time... and both Mum and Dad Dove plus Baby Dove Egg are settling into the new home, which now sits on a much better secure ledge :)
Thennnnnnnnnnnn came the BIG PURCHASE of the new Kazzachezza Mobile! :) :) (notice that one gets two smiles...)
Now I was tossing up to get the green one but went for the "Aquatic Blue" instead and do you know it was only over the weekend that I realised that my Morley Report symbol is the same colour! Ahhhh was all meant to be!
But over the course of Thursday night I felt sick and thought maybe it was just all the excitement etc. but come Friday morning I realised it wasn't excitement butttttt a lovely little stomach bug! I knowww right! (as Jake would say).
So Friday I stayed home from work and took it easy and a big thanks to Jake who wrote a Morley Report for me, as there was no way on Friday night I was up to it!
And Funny Nana had a big Friday too, because as I was laying in bed she had the plumbers come visit downstairs in her/Jake's house and these pics below are mainly for Jake to see what work was done!
Before....
After....
And because Jake was telling me that he sometimes misses the colour green that we have here back home, because I believe that in Yulara there is a lot of brown... here are some before and after pics of my hole! :)
And can you believe that I haven't even planted ONE GRASS SEED!!!
Courtesy of our lovely Mower Man Peter, who today I found out had the good old stomach virus too!
Saturday night Elaine & Heather came over for a spa and we were soooo very excited as Al DID turn up, jet lag and all as she only flew in from LA yesterday morning after being away for nearly two months!
It was a really lovely evening andddddd I would like to share with you my first ever Quiche!
Before:
Meets After:
We had lots of laughs and had a great catch up as well as a nice hot spa. And after everyone left and I cleaned up, I went back in for another one with the rain falling. My goodness it was lovely :)
Today was a quiet one. Whilst it was always a blast going away, I have to say that I equally love being at home. It's nice to be surrounded by "your things" now maybe this is an "old" thing I don't know but I have found that in the last so many years I love my house and my stuff!
I guess as the years have gone on you do start to accumulate things that you love and you surround yourself with them. Maybe that's it.....
Do you feel the same way?
And then of course today came the very sad news about Whitney Houston. And whilst I guess in the end it wasn't a complete shock considering the life she lead, the thing that really got to me is that she is only three years older than me and that her life has finished and that is a very sad thing.
We all have our favourite Whitney Houston song and who could forget The Bodyguard! But my thoughts go to her very young daughter Bobbi who at just 19 years of age is left without a mother and one would have to think has seen many things that a child of her age should never have had to witness.
Life is indeed a gift, one that we should treasure and make the most of!
On that note my friends, have yourself a lovely Sunday night!

John Edward, Crossing Over and Toilet Buddies plus a My Hole Update!
So Groover’s last night I went on a little adventure to see Psychic – John Edward in a live show. (Thanks Cris!)
Now I have to tell you that I am not that into all those freaky psychic shows. But I have been a fan of John Edward for prob about 10 years now and have seen him once before.
And just so you know, I don’t go to these things for my Grandad or Nana to come through. If they did it would freak me out BIG TIME. And they both know it ☺
I guess I go to be a voyeur, because it sure is interesting to watch it all unfold before your very own eyes and ears, live - rather than on TV.
I went with my good friend Maureen.
And it was def a packed house. And another good friend of mine Kylie was in the crowd too!
When we got there we went to our seats and not long after they announced that there had been a traffic accident on one of the main roads not far from the venue and as John would speak for 2 hours, it would prob be a good idea whilst we were waiting for the late people to arrive, to make a little visit to the bathroom.
Now I decided nahhh I don’t need to go. But what is it that once someone says this you can virtually hear your bladder filling up and you JUST KNOWWWW there is no way you will make it through 2 hours of the show without having to go!
So after thinking I would be fine, I did decided to go just incase. Now I always used to joke in nightclubs years ago that the bathrooms were def designed by males, because there are usually only a couple of toilets in the women’s bathroom. How true though! Think about it...
But over the years I have often made me some “Toilet Buddies” as I like to call them. Because whilst you are waiting & busting in that queue you start making chit chat. And then somehow as the night progresses it’s like your bladders become in sync because next time you need to go to the bathroom you find yourself YET AGAINNNN in that same queue with some of the same girls!!
I can remember one night, of course I had had a few little drinkies and I had made a few new “friends” in the bathroom and they had written their phone numbers on my arm, so that we could catch up again etc. I tend to make friends in the strangest places LOL.
And I can remember being bold enough to go up to some guys and say “Hey so how has your night been? Met many girls, got many numbers? Then I showed them my arm with the phone numbers and said “check out these babies!!!” hehehe.
So back to last night, big queues and they had even turned some of the boys bathrooms into girls ones (which of course I happened to use) and we had a queue coming in each door and we met in the middle. So when it was my turn, the cubicle door wouldn't lock anddddddddddd at the end my toilet wouldn’t flush :( Don’t ya just hate it when that happens.
So finally I gave up and opened the door and said to the whole entire bathroom full of ladies, the door doesn’t lock and the toilet doesn’t flush! They all laughed and one lady said then out loud “Well you are a very brave woman…” and the WHOLE BATHROOM laughed! Hehehe. Trust me!
So as per the norm, John was amazing.
And whilst neither myself or Maureen had a reading, as such, it’s sure is interesting what you take and pick up from the night.
Here are the two lessons that John taught me last night.
Number 1 Lesson: I have never really thought about it this way, but thinking back to the last few months, esp since I have been writing my blog nightly, I do believe that The Morley Report is in fact helping me to heal from my Grandad’s passing. And you know what kids? That’s a nice thing ☺
Number 2 Lesson: The very last couple to be read in the audience, well it was a very sad story. Not that some of the others weren’t. Some can be funny, some make you feel sad and a few might bring a tear to your eye.
But this couple, after John had been telling them things for a while, we found that they had in fact lost their son, only a year ago and he was only 8 years of age! He had died due to a car accident not far from their house. John talked about the little boys ashes that they keep in a teddy bear and how her son was with her when she went into his bedroom and laid her head down on his pillow, to smell him because she missed him and wanted to feel close again to him. I tell you there were many of us in the audience with tears in our eyes.
I guess it made me think. Here I was a bit upset about Jake's tattoo. And you know it's not really about the Tattoo but more about the fact that he is growing up, being his own person, making his own decisions and I don't always really know what is going on with him in his life. But that I'm afraid is one of the fun things with parenthood as they get older.
I describe it a bit like this: so I cut the umbilical cord a few years back. I don't want Jake to be a Mummies Boy! But there were prob say three little strands left and I think over the weekend just gone two more broke. So he is just hanging in there attached to me by one teeny eeny part.
But then I heard these parents share their very sad story last night. I said to myself "Morley get a grip! You are all upset about Jake and the tattoo and these people lost their 8yo son." It kinda made me put things into perspective I guess.
So that my friends was last night.
Today there was a bit of movement at my hole! We had the slab put down for the spa and the very old and veryyyyyy sad side fence removed and this is where we are at tonight.
Tomorrow the rest of the fence will happen, then the electrician makes a visit and then OMGGGGGGGGG the Morley Spa will get delivered. Exciting times :)
Catch ya tomorrow
